Ghana Internet Governance Forum starts tomorrow

To promote awareness and understanding of internet governance issues, the Ghana Internet Governance Forum (Ghana IGF) is set to take place on September 4-5, 2024, at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Accra.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Sustainable Development for Our Digital Future,” highlights the critical role of digitalization in driving sustainable growth and development across Ghana.

Addressing the media, Executive Director of Ghana Domain Name Registry, Nana Kofi Asafu- Aidoo, stated that the Ghana IGF is a collaborative effort of the steering committee.

He said it will bring together stakeholders from government agencies, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector to share experiences and shape strategies for an inclusive digital future.

The event will feature discussions on critical issues such as fostering global digital equity, addressing disinformation and misinformation, and internet shutdowns in the context of political elections.

In addition, the Ghana Youth IGF will take place on September 4, 2024, providing a platform for young people to engage in internet governance discussions.

The main Ghana IGF will follow on September 5, 2024, with a focus on empowering sustainable development for a digital future.

On his part, President of ISOC Ghana, Francis Acquah Amaning touched on the Internet Governance Training for the Judiciary in Ghana, themed “Justice in a Connected World: Navigating the Digital Landscape in Ghana.

It aims to enhance the judiciary’s capacity in internet governance, ensuring they are well-equipped to address complex legal issues arising from the internet.

By fostering a deeper understanding of internet governance, the Ghana IGF and related initiatives aim to promote a safer, more inclusive, and equitable online environment for all.
