Ghana Internet Governance Forum

The Ghana Internet Governance Forum (Ghana IGF) is an annual event that brings together stakeholders from across sectors to discuss, shape, and improve internet governance in Ghana. Launched as part of a broader global initiative supported by the United Nations, Ghana IGF provides a platform for policymakers, civil society, academia, the private sector, and tech enthusiasts to address critical issues, including digital rights, cybersecurity, privacy, and the expansion of internet access. By fostering an inclusive dialogue, Ghana IGF aims to support policies that promote a secure, accessible, and empowering internet landscape in Ghana, reflecting local priorities within the global digital ecosystem. The Ghana IGF Secretariat is hosted by the Ghana Domain Name Registry (GDNR).
The Ghana Youth IGF under the umbrella of the Ghana IGF is an essential component focusing specifically on young people’s role in internet governance.
As digital natives, Ghana’s youth play a crucial role in shaping the future of the internet in the country, and the Youth IGF encourages active
participation and leadership development. Through workshops, mentorship, and discussions, young people are empowered to voice their perspectives on issues like data protection, online safety, and internet inclusivity, fostering a generation that is not only tech-savvy but also policy-aware and actively engaged in the governance of Ghana’s digital space.
To further support capacity building in internet governance.
The Ghana Internet Governance School (GIGS) provides structured learning opportunities for individuals looking to deepen their understanding of internet governance frameworks and policies. This initiative offers comprehensive training that covers both foundational and advanced topics in internet governance, enabling participants to contribute meaningfully to local and international policy discussions. By enhancing expertise and awareness, Ghana IG School helps develop a knowledgeable community of professionals who can advocate for effective internet governance, driving growth and digital inclusivity in Ghana’s evolving tech landscape.
